Arizona
03:21
|
|||
V1)
Alone with my dog in Arizona
Sitting in a trailer in the rain
It’s not a real camping trailer
It’s just something that I made
V2)
Alone with my thoughts in Arizona
Trying to remember what you said
Looking through memories, darkly
They’re just something in my head
Chorus)
I’m used to hearing you say it’s ok
Right before you turn around and leave
I guess I wouldn’t have it another way
It takes the pressure off of me to believe
V3)
Same dog was with me in Alaska
When I left my charade
I thank god for this loyal company
That’s not something that I made
Chorus)
V4)
All those years I spent looking
Feeling I had missed a cue
Now I’m alone in a trailer that I made
Wishing I was here with you
Chorus)

Green River
04:30
|
|||
If you're plotting to regain your long lost mojo,
or just looking to get back to who you are,
the solution's simpler than you probably thought, friend.
You just need some time to puzzle out your problems,
a place to stare up in amazement at the stars.
That place exists and, by and by, I'll take you there.
Green River. Lay your burdens by, and follow me down.
We'll go floating peacefully down the canyons toward the sea.
Green River. Come along with me.
Did you ever wanna be a great explorer?
Isn't it a pity we were born too late?
Still, look around you, this is just what those men saw.
And even if we weren't the first ones to behold it,
aren't we lucky to have had this chance at all?
Of all the billions who have lived, that number's small.
Green River, coffee-colored flood, snaking along
at the foot of sheer escarpments hundreds of feet high.
Green River, sluggish autumn flow.
It doesn't matter where you're from or how you got here.
What's important is that you showed up at all.
Moments like this are what the whole thing's all about.
Feast your eyes upon this most peculiar landscape.
Let the cockamamie colors fill your head.
And just keep moving like that spaced-out carving says.
Green River, grasses, plants and trees clutter the shore,
casting verdigris reflections on the reddish stream.
Green River, festive Yuletide flow.
Green River, quiet majesty... blessed retreat.
Listen to the raven's call echo off the red rock walls,
This sure beats being at the mall in crowds!
Green River, quiet majesty.
bridge:
When the thunder growls, a storm is not far off.
T'won't necessarily mean rain.
Put that fly up on your tent, though, just in case.
And let the gurgling water lull you off to sleep.
Green River, come along with me.
Green River, tumbling to the sea.
Green River, carry me away.

V1)
She wears a straight face of steel-gray stone
Broken rocks lie beyond repose
Never doubt, they will fall down
In the only place I’ve ever been at home
V2)
She stretched and yawned early in the morn’
Shook our house, nearly took it down
We rolled over, slept until the dawn
In the only place we’ve ever been at home
Ch)
My old man set his chair
Just to catch a trace
Of that steep and stark old mountain
It brought comfort to his face
V3)
Some have jumped, fallen or flown
Some tried to take her for their own
Tame and scrape her high plateaus
In the only place that she has ever known
Ch)
Br)
She embraces
She rejects
Shelters, throws stones
In the only place I’ve ever been at home
V4)
And now I’m here on a long evening road
Lost my way. It’s raining this far north
Many days from friends that I left
So many days from the place I feel at home
Ch)
And I will set my chair
Just to catch a trace
Of that steep and stark old mountain
It brings comfort to my face

Red Fox
03:49
|
|||
1. Running down a red fox ‘cross these open fields can sometimes take forever.
But, if I had a horse, things would be different. That’s everything I’d need.
I could bag a dozen rabbits in one after- noon,
watch as my children eat ... like … kings.
2. Running from the Yuta and the Navajo’s a full-time occupation.
But, if I had a gun, things would be different. That's all the help I’d need.
Then maybe we could build a cabin, settle in beside the lake,
catch all the fish that we could eat.
Sittin’ round the campfire while the old men tell their tales.
of ragged glory and de- feat.
I can’t re- late to all their talk of fearless deeds... ‘Coz all I've ever known is pover- ty.
3. All I ever wanted was a place to live my life and raise a family,
a simple little farm where I could roam the land and forage and breathe free.
A spring with water flowing crystal clear … just like it did before the cattle came.
trampling down the fragile desert grass… be- neath … their … hooves.
banjo solo here
Sittin’ by the campfire someday, kids surrounding me,
what will my stories be?
Will I suc- cumb to every fresh indigni- ty?
Or fix them with a firm “Don't tread on me”?
But what am I supposed to do?
I’m just one guy against a God damn army.
They've got all the guns and all the bullets.
There's no way I can prevail.
Everywhere we go, the blasted countless and determined Daibō follow.
All we want is to be left alone to find a place where we can just be free.
Running down a red fox ‘cross these empty fields can sometimes take forever.

Lazybones
03:34
|
|||
Verse 1)
Gone are the days when my dad had said,
C’mon Lazy Bones, out of bed
We’re gonna climb a mountain today
Just to see the sun rise
He woke us up at 3 AM
Packed into a Rambler
Drove on up to the trailhead
Just to see the sun rise
Chorus)
Come on Lazy Bones, out of Bed
We’re gonna climb a mountain today
Come on Lazy Bones, out of Bed
Just to see the sun rise
Verse 2)
Gone are the days when my mom sewed tents
And bought us hats with big wide brims
You’ve got to keep the sun off of your head
It’s bright up there
She climbed over rocks and snow
Sometimes slid down on the ice
Drank from streams right off of the ground
Just to see the sun rise
Chorus)
Verse 3)
Mom is gone now and dad is too
Children grown up, our days near through
Call me on the phone and they like to say,
Remember when
You woke us up at 3 AM
Packed into a GMC
Drove on up to the trailhead
Just to see the sunrise
Chorus)

Goat
04:10
|
|||
V1)
I think I’ll be me a goat
I think I’ll buy me a mare
What will our neighbors say
Do you think they’ll care
I think I’ll buy me a beater car
That’s rusted and gray
We’ll park it in the yard
That’s where it’s gonna stay
Chorus)
I’ve wasted too much time
Worrying about you
I’ve spent too much time
Swimming in your pool
I’ve shed too much blood
Fighting for your cause
I’ve got too little left
To wait for your applause
V2)
I think I’ll be like Shotgun Willie
And sit around in my underwear
I’ll wear this old shirt just one more day
And then I’ll throw it away
I’m gonna let my dog bark loud
He may even bite
I hope he sits near the gate
And keeps you up at night

In Summer's Realm
03:28
|
|||
I have a dream with a memory intertwined.
In a summer scene, they're lazily combined.
Through sleepy meadows, down sunny roads,
I walk through my head, and it seems to ease my load.
And, in that dream, there's a solitude to find.
On a gentle stream with cool, green banks, my mind drifts free. And I
fly down rocky paths, dark dusty highways, with an unfamiliar ease.
The sun will shine on dappled flanks. A tail will swish a fly and, yes,
the sun will shine... on that dream of summer magical the which is mine.
Through sleepy meadows, down sunny roads, I move through my mind, and forget the passing time.

Down the Drain
03:38
|
|||
Verse 1)
I know what you’re talking about
I was there when the blades came out
I was there as the steel sunk in
I saw it all start again
I know what you’re worried about
I was there as it all spun out
I was there when the sirens rang
I saw it all start again
Chorus)
Sometimes there’s gonna be a void
Sometimes there’s gonna be pain
We didn’t figure on the hammer coming down
Or the price we would pay
Verse 2)
I was there as it went down the drain
I was there as we stuck it to the man
We felt the screw turn on our thumb
Then we saw what we had become
I was there as the world burned up
When we sat deaf, blind, and dumb
I was there to see the last of the ice
Brought down low by our own device
Chorus)
Verse 3)
I know what you’re worried about
I was there as we shrugged a lot
When we turned our eyes
Hard to believe it wasn't recognized
I was there when we ostracized
Censured and crucified
I was there as it went down the drain
I was there as we stuck it to the man

Generation of Love
03:06
|
|||
When I was young, I watched the world spinning around my head.
Youth inflamed with the fires of truth,
Burning deepest red, a time for change to rearrange the way things were.
On the TV screen, the war raged on, but the motives weren’t that clear.
And, if blood and violence were answers there, they were problems here, drawn in simple lines by simple minds in simple fear.
So in turbulent times a generation was born,
bound by beliefs that kept a nation torn.
And they grew into the generation we call ... the generation of love.
-guitar solo over a modified/extended verse-
Where did they go? Why did they leave?
If love was the answer, do they still believe?
What happened to those that tore down the walls society built and bridged the gap between you and me?
What happened to ... the generation of love?
-more lead guitar into ending-

Sauna
02:27
|
|||
V1)
I’ve been too longa in the sauna
Face is red and I feel like prunes
My arms are short, legs are longa
Need a drink, towel, and shoes
Ch)
I’m just thinking, I used to feel lucky
How did I get this blood on my hands
I’m just thinking, you used to call me honey
There’s no way we can make amends
V2)
I’ve been too longa in the sauna
Missed my chance and now I’m alone
Three perfect days but I don’t wanna
Please, somebody, won’t you take me home
Ch)
V3)
I’ve been too longa in the sauna
Lost all that I ever owned
I kissed a girl looks like your momma
Should have called, but I ain’t got a phone

Hide Your Fear
04:28
|
|||
No matter how you try to hide your fear,
it shows clearly in your eyes.
Drown it in a good, stiff drink
and it will surely fade...
temporarily.
No matter how hard you try not to run,
terror will triumph in the end.
When panic has you in its grip,
you won't know what to do.
Just you wait and see.
Dread will slowly wear you down.
But dread won't pre- pare you for the sudden, brutal stab of fear:
Your legs will give out under you, your addled senses reel.
The agonizing seconds will drag on until you feel
the earth will open up and swallow you.
You might just end up praying for it to.
No matter how important you think you are,
you will find you're not immune.
There'll come a time when you will be so paralyzed by fear
you won't know your name.
It may not be an angry grizzly bear
or a hungry great white shark.
Terror knows no arrogance;
a tiny unseen worm
may provide the spark.
So lock your windows, bolt your doors, and hide behind the curtains.
Something wicked this way comes, of that you can be certain.
Don’t look friendly strangers in the eye.
They’ll only disappoint you by and by.
Turn around and run away, don’t take the time to stop and say good- bye!

Rope
04:22
|
|||
V1)
About that time, I think it was ’49
I got that craving for some silver and some gold
Left my family, forsook all friends
No one warned me about the hunger or the cold
Ch 1)
I do declare there was someone out to get me
I do declare they were after my lode
I do declare that they stalked me through the night
So much trouble just for digging in a hole
V2)
I was a familiar with flatlands and grass
Breaking ground for my wife and our child
Papers talking of a place called California
So much gold there it’s lying in great piles
Ch 2)
I do declare there was someone out to get me
I do declare they were after my lode
I do declare that they stalked me through the night
So much trouble just for digging in a hole
V3)
Levi Martin was my partner at the start
Until I caught a look of greed in his eye
He would have stabbed me for that barren patch of ground
I had to act fast, I had to take him down
Ch3)
I do declare that Levi had it coming
I do declare he was after my lode
I do declare he was gonna take my ground
I come too far to wind up swinging from a rope
Bridge)
Ain’t no crops growing along these washed-out streams
Ain’t no gold for me in this country
I’m wondering why I came and and where I’m gonna run
Ain’t no gold for me in this country
V4)
I could have stayed on a farm, a simple man
Instead of leaving with my shovel and some hope
Now they’re dragging me to a place called Hangtown
No man found gold while swinging from a rope
Ch 4)
I do declare that Levi had it coming
I do declare he was after my lode
I do declare he was gonna take my ground
I come too far to wind up swinging from this rope

Freefall
03:55
|
|||
Twisting, turning, spiraling in freefall,
a first-time parachutist drops.
Blindly, he gropes to get a handhold.
Clutching to the yellow cord, he clenches his teeth tight...
and pulls.
This is no time for reminiscing.
These frantic breaths could be his last.
Fear struck, his heart beats like a bass drum,
arms and legs flailing like a rag doll in a washing machine.
And, all at once, his whole life passes before his eyes
like a sudden summer storm.
A dazzling technicolor vision
so overwhelming he forgets his foul predicament.
When he is once more firmly grounded,
when his poor heart has ceased to pound in his chest,
often he'll think back on this moment:
The rapid pulse, the ragged breaths, the way his blood ran cold.
That wondrous day when his whole life raced before his very eyes
in a sudden blinding flash,
surpassing all his expectations.
That single moment when this tired life was just a memory.

Side by Side
02:53
|
|||
Two guys walking side-by-side, calm as can be.
They've got a story. What can it be?
They robbed a freight train … casually,
laughed while the whole thing's going down.
Or maybe they’re Russian spies, searching for clues.
They'll find an expert, ply her with booze,
interrogate him carefully, write down the information
most precisely leaving nothing out.
whistle solo here
bridge:
Strange that I think I can read someone else…
when I don’t even know myself.
It makes me wonder what goes through people’s heads
when they see… me.
Do they see a soldier on… extended leave,
here to implore you … on bended knee:
Accept this ring and be my wife? Or just some jerk who lives a double life?
And what makes me assume… that they see me at all
when we’re all running round, each in our own thrall?
And why should I care, anyway?
I’ll stand my ground and live my
life … the way I want no matter what .. folks think or say…
(and) laugh while the whole thing's going down.
